How Bad Is Omicron?

In February 2022, it was becoming fairly clear that Covid wasn't panning out to be the Big Bad Wolf it was made out to be.

Dr. Bryan Betty, Medical Director of the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners, made several appearances on mainstream media at this time making comments such as the one quoted on the billboard.

Other notable statements included:

"Omicron is highly infectious, and so a lot of people will come down with it, but the majority of people will have mild symptoms or no symptoms at all, and so it is very different from the Delta situation," Dr Betty said.

"The scaremongering and the fear factor is causing a huge amount of resource being unnecessarily being taken up in our health system, and in some circumstances, people are suffering dire consequences due to their inability to access urgent healthcare."

It was at this time that tens of thousands of people were protesting the vaccine mandates in Wellington and the Government was holding on strong to their divisive two-class system policies including the vaccination pass and the exclusion of vaccine-free individuals from many industries, workplaces, businesses, services, and public facilities.

All for a virus that Government experts were admitting was likely to be less severe than the regular flu.

So, What's Old Bill Saying?

Even Bill Gates is now admitting that:

  • the infection fatality rate for Covid in the early days was low,
  • the people most affected were the elderly,
  • the illness is comparable to the seasonal flu.

Those who raised these exact same points during 2020 and 2021 - with supporting evidence - swiftly found themselves in hot water.

Making such statements was enough for scientists and medical professionals to come under the scrutiny of their employers and governing boards.

Lay people were belittled, ridiculed, kicked off social media platforms for spreading "misinformation", and heavily censored.

All for information that was just as true then as it is now.
