Voices for Freedom is a grassroots movement working to strengthen freedom, sovereignty, accountable government and strong communities across New Zealand.
We believe New Zealand’s future can be shaped for the better when people are informed, engaged and willing to take part.
Who We Are
Founded in 2020, when many New Zealanders were increasingly concerned about government overreach, censorship and the erosion of individual rights.
The Government’s response to COVID was the tipping point that brought many of us together. Yet the issues exposed during that period were part of a much bigger picture.
They raised fundamental questions about the relationship between citizens and the state, the limits of government power, informed consent, censorship, independent media and the right of ordinary people to question decisions made in their name.
VFF grew from a simple belief: New Zealanders should be free to speak openly, think critically and make decisions about their own lives without coercion. That belief remains at the heart of what we do.
Guiding Principles
We believe New Zealand was built on freedom, and we want it back. The decisions that shape our political, economic and social future must be made here, by us, transparently and accountably, with New Zealanders able to meaningfully participate in the democratic process.
A free and sovereign New Zealand depends on the following principles being understood, defended and passed on. They form the foundation of our work.
Freedom of Speech and Open Debate
People must be free to express their views, question prevailing ideas, and participate in honest public debate without being silenced or punished for holding unpopular opinions.
New Zealand’s Sovereignty
The decisions that shape New Zealand’s political, economic and social future should be made here, transparently and accountably, with New Zealanders able to participate meaningfully in the democratic process.
Personal Autonomy and Informed Consent
Individuals have the right to make informed decisions about their own bodies, health, families and lives.
Government Transparency and Accountability
Those who exercise public power must be open about their decisions, responsible for their actions and answerable to the people they serve.
Personal Responsibility and Self-Determination
Freedom comes with responsibility. Strong societies are built by people who take ownership of their choices, families, communities and futures.
Strong Communities and Local Empowerment
Resilient communities are built through trust, relationships, practical cooperation and people willing to help one another.
How We Work
Our work is built around three connected pillars: Media, Advocacy and Community.
Together, these pillars strengthen one another, turning information into participation and participation into meaningful change.
Media
Through RCR (Reality Check Radio), we inform and educate New Zealanders by investigating important issues, explaining complex subjects and providing access to perspectives often ignored, misrepresented or excluded elsewhere.
Our goal is not to tell people what to think. It is to give them the information and perspectives they need to think for themselves.
Advocacy
Our campaigns, Action Trackers, research and legal work help New Zealanders understand important public issues and provide practical ways to respond.
That may mean making a submission, requesting official information, contacting a decision-maker, signing a petition, attending an event, participating in a public consultation or supporting legal action.
We work to turn awareness into informed, peaceful and effective action.
Community
Through our nationwide community network, we bring people together face-to-face to build relationships, share knowledge, support one another and take practical action in their own communities.
Our local groups are not simply mailing lists. They are networks of real people building trust, sharing skills and strengthening community resilience.
What We’ve Built
What began as a small grassroots initiative has since grown into a nationwide movement with the infrastructure to inform, connect and mobilise New Zealanders at scale.
Today, that includes:
- More than 100 local groups throughout New Zealand
- Tens of thousands of local-group members
- A nationwide network of volunteer local and regional coordinators
- An independent media platform through RCR
- Established systems for research, campaigns, public submissions and community mobilisation
- A nationwide team with experience across law, media, advocacy, technology and grassroots organisation
Our Impact
VFF has mobilised New Zealanders in their thousands, driven large-scale public participation in Parliamentary and government processes, challenged government decisions, supported legal action, exposed important information and helped bring overlooked issues into national debate.
Along the way, we have seen policies reversed, legislation repealed or reconsidered, proposals delayed, and greater public scrutiny brought to decisions affecting New Zealanders’ rights and freedoms.
No meaningful victory belongs to one organisation alone. Change happens through sustained pressure, informed participation and people refusing to give up.
We are proud of the role VFF and our nationwide community have played so far, and we are only getting started.
The Future Is Ours to Shape
Freedom is not guaranteed, nor is it self-sustaining. It depends on people who are informed, connected and prepared to participate.
That’s why it matters when people ask questions, speak openly, make submissions, attend meetings, contact elected representatives, support independent media and connect with others in their communities.
The future of New Zealand will be shaped by those who are prepared to take part today.

Founded in 2020, Voices For Freedom emerged during a time when many New Zealanders became concerned about government overreach, censorship, and the erosion of individual freedoms. While the government’s heavy-handed response to COVID was the tipping point that brought many people together, our mission has always been about the bigger picture: defending freedom, accountability, and self-determination in New Zealand.
We believe that a healthy democracy depends on people being able to speak openly, question authority, and make informed decisions about their own lives, without fear of censorship, discrimination, or reprisal.
Our work focuses on defending the principles that underpin a free and prosperous nation:

Freedom requires participation, vigilance, and personal responsibility. It cannot be preserved by government alone. It depends on engaged citizens who are willing to protect and uphold it.
Through advocacy, education, independent media, community-building, and grassroots action, we work to inform, connect, and mobilise New Zealanders who want to play an active role in shaping the future of their country.
We are not defined by a single campaign, policy, or political party. We are united by a shared belief that a free and prosperous New Zealand depends on the people who are willing to stand up for the values that make it possible.
Our vision is a free, sovereign, and self-reliant New Zealand where individuals, families, and communities can determine their own futures and pass those freedoms on to future generations.
